This is an antique Japanese late Taisho Era (c. 1920's) Imari ceramic lidded bowl. It has a repeated transfer printed design of three different scenes with geometric patterned circles on both the bowl and lid. One scene is of two men riding horses; the second is of a sailing ship and the last is of two women gardening in front of a country home. Between each of the three scenes are two smaller circles with geometric patterns (i.e., nami, coin, basketweave, etc.). The lid fits inside the bowl nicely to keep your sencha tea, soup or rice warm. This bowl was high fired for lasting durability.

A great example of Taisho art of this period.

This bowl measures 4 1/4" in diameter by 3 1/2" tall with the lid (10.8 x 8.9 cm). Having been in storage for almost a hundred years, with exception to a small chip on the lid (see picture 10), it remains in fine condition.
