This is an antique Japanese mid Meiji Era (c. 1890) bronze Usubata (Ikebana flower vase). This vase was used in a tokonoma (alcove in a traditional Japanese home) to display flowers. It is made of a heavy bronze and has a thick relief design of a crane flying over waves (see pictures 2 & 4). It has side handles in the form of dragons (see picture 6). It has a strong tri pod footing (see pictures 7 & 11).
This vase measures 8" in diameter at its widest by 12" tall (20 x 31 cm). Having been used lovingly for over a century, this bronze usubata remains infine condition. Quite a heavy piece of bronze artwork at over 8 pounds.
A beautiful way to display any kind of flower arrangement.
