Antique Signed Japanese Taisho Era (C1915) Wood & Lacquer Obon Ozen Tray
Antique Signed Japanese Taisho Era (C1915) Wood & Lacquer Obon Ozen Tray
This is an antique Japanese Tisho Era (c. 1915) serving tray, Obon or Ozen. It would have been used to serve tea or small appetizers. It is made of cryptomeria wood with over 20 coats of Japanese dark brown lacquer. It has fretwork etched into the lacquer with gold fill going around the perimeter as well as a unique etched wood grain (hundreds of small lines are etched into the last layers of lacquer to resemble a wood grin (see picture 8).
Having been in storage for over a century and protected by its original protective lidded presentation box , with the exception of very minor signs of past use this ozen tray remains overall in fine condition. Sits squarely on floor or table. It measures 13" square by 1" tall (33 x 2.5 cm). A very elegant and functional piece of art to display your treasures.
Please note: This listing is for one only of the original 10 ozen seen in pictures 9, 10 & 11. The lidded presentation box seen in the last three pictures as well as the remaining 7 ozen and the imari bowl seen in pictures 1 & 12 are not included in this listing but can be seen in current or future sailerking listings or can be made available upon request.
