Japanese Government occupation currency, Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) 10 Cent — "De Japansche Regeering Tien Cent," issued 1942
Japanese Occupation, Dutch East Indies (Indonesia); issued 1942
A Japanese military occupation banknote for 10 Cent issued for the Dutch East Indies during the Japanese occupation of 1942–1945, in noticeably better condition than the first example. The face reads DE JAPANSCHE REGEERING / TIEN CENT in Dutch, with 大日本帝國政府 at the base. The reverse carries a bold geometric 10 in purple guilloche. These notes replaced Dutch colonial currency across the Indonesian archipelago as the Japanese military administration moved rapidly to establish economic control following the fall of the Dutch colonial government in March 1942. The Dutch-language text on notes issued to a Dutch colony occupied by a Japanese military force is one of the more striking artifacts of the administrative logic of the Pacific War occupation system.
