Japanese Studio Pottery Small Stoneware Jar (Ko-tsubo) – Iron Black Glaze

Contemporary Japanese studio pottery

A charming hand-thrown ko-tsubo (small jar) of compact, rounded form, finished in a rich iron-black glaze that breaks subtly over the shoulder and pools with soft variations across the surface. The glaze stops naturally above the foot, revealing the warm buff stoneware body beneath, while the gently uneven rim and throwing rings preserve the character of handmade work.

The vessel's simple, functional silhouette recalls traditional Japanese storage jars on a miniature scale. Suitable as a small tea utensil container, incense jar, decorative accent, or simply appreciated as an example of modern Japanese studio ceramics. An impressed potter's seal is present on the underside.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs observed.
