Blue and White Overlay Peking Glass / Bo Li / Carved Floral Snuff Bottle
China, late Qing Dynasty to early Republic, early 20th century
This teardrop-form snuff bottle is worked in the Peking glass (bo li) overlay tradition — cobalt blue over white milk glass, wheel-carved to reveal a botanical composition of chrysanthemum blooms, buds, and sweeping leafy branches encircling the body. A banded wave or rock motif rings the base, and the neck and foot rim retain clean blue overlaid rings. The carving is confident and fully three-dimensional, with good relief depth. No stopper present.
Dimensions: approximately 3"H (7 cm) Weight:
Peking glass overlay work reached its peak under imperial patronage during the 18th and 19th centuries; cobalt-on-white examples with botanical subjects are among the most collected in the genre. This bottle displays well in hand or on a snuff bottle stand.
Condition: Very good; no chips or cracks noted. No stopper. Normal age-related wear to base.
