China, late Qing–early Republic, 19th–early 20th century
A cylindrical cloisonné brush pot (bitong) on a rich cobalt blue ground, one face decorated with a shaped cartouche enclosing a scholar's objects composition — a red-ground vase with floral decoration, a potted plant, and a stack of books or folded documents — all rendered in polychrome enamel. The reverse carries a geometric lattice pattern on the same blue ground. Upper and lower borders feature alternating heart and arrow motifs in turquoise and gold. Brass mounts top and bottom; glazed blue enamel base.
