Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Lozenge Dish Peach Longevity Floral Celadon Ground Late Qing 7.5" Inches
A charming late Qing to early Republic period Chinese porcelain dish in an unusual lozenge form with gently scalloped corners, decorated in the famille rose (fěncǎi) palette on a pale celadon-white ground. The central field is defined by a double iron-red diamond cartouche enclosing a cluster of shou tao (寿桃) — the auspicious longevity peaches of Chinese iconography — rendered in pink, yellow, and teal-green with leafy stems and a small fungus spray. The wide border is scattered with additional floral and fruit motifs in teal, orange, pink, and yellow, freely painted in a folksy, spontaneous hand. The reverse carries scattered peach and fruit sprays on the same celadon ground; the unglazed oval foot rim shows the buff-toned paste typical of the period. No reign mark.
Dimensions: 7.5"L × 5"W × 1.5"H (19 × 13 × 4 cm) Weight: >1lb
The shou tao peach is among the most auspicious symbols in Chinese decorative arts, associated with the Queen Mother of the West (Xiwangmu) and the gift of immortality — making dishes of this type traditional presents for birthdays and celebratory occasions.
Condition: Good; a repaired area visible at lower right edge, smoothed but with slight color variation. Unglazed foot rim with age-consistent soil deposits. No chips or cracks to the decorated surfaces noted.
A lively and auspicious piece of late Qing folk-tradition porcelain, the freely painted peach composition retaining considerable decorative charm.
