Chinese Jingdezhen (景德鎮) famille rose porcelain vase, 雄风图 (Heroic Wind Picture) rooster composition, signed and certified by Senior Arts & Crafts Master Yu Jinxi (俞金喜), dated 2007
China, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi; dated 丁亥年 (2007), created at Zhushan (珠山)
A large and finely painted Jingdezhen porcelain vase of compressed globular form with a wide everted mouth rim, the shoulder and lower body washed in a soft celadon green glaze, the broad central register carrying a continuous polychrome famille rose composition titled 雄风图 (Xióng Fēng Tú — "Heroic Wind Picture") and painted in the gongbi (工笔) fine-line manner with exceptional attention to feather detail, botanical texture, and spatial composition. The central figure is a large cock rendered in deep burgundy, black, and rose pink — his tail feathers sweeping in a long dramatic arc — surrounded by hens and chicks in various postures among morning glory vines in pink and green, bamboo, chrysanthemum, and a gnarled scholar's rock. The featherwork throughout is executed with extraordinary fineness, individual barbs and quills delineated in black ink line work over the polychrome washes in a manner that closely approximates the precision of bird-and-flower painting on silk or paper. The composition wraps continuously around the full circumference of the vessel without interruption, the figures and botanical elements interlocking across the surface with the spatial confidence of a practised painter working at large scale.
The reverse face of the vase carries the title inscription 雄风图 and a verse poem in flowing running-script calligraphy: a celebration of the rooster as a figure of heroic virtue — brilliant in bearing, needing no fine robes to proclaim his dignity, his dawn crow resounding across ten thousand rivers and heard in every household. The poem and painting together constitute a single integrated work, the literary and visual registers reinforcing each other in the classical Chinese tradition of the "three perfections" — painting, poetry, and calligraphy united on a single object. The artist's signature 俞金喜 (Yú Jīnxǐ) appears beside two red seals; a third four-character seal 俞金喜印 appears on the glazed base in iron red.
Yu Jinxi (俞金喜) holds the title of 高级工艺美术师 (Senior Arts & Crafts Master) — a formal designation within the Chinese national arts and crafts credentialing system, awarded to recognized masters of traditional ceramic decoration at Jingdezhen. The piece is accompanied by its original 收藏证书 (Collector's Certificate), signed and sealed by the artist, certifying the work as created at 珠山 (Zhushan — the historic heart of Jingdezhen's porcelain district) in the year 丁亥 (2007). Zhushan, the "Bead Hill," was the site of the imperial kilns and remains the symbolic center of Jingdezhen ceramic production. The certificate includes a photograph of the elderly artist in his studio, surrounded by his work.
