Antique Chinese Qing 19th Blue & White Ginger Jar Hand Painted Phoenix 11"
This is a 19th century antique Chinese jar from the Qing Dynasty, mid to late 19th century. Recently acquired by from a local collector who lived and traveled all over Asia in the 1960's picking up treasures along the way. It is hand thrown and all hand painted in the classic cobalt underglaze. Decorated in a peony flower motif. The repeating ancient Chinese meander or "Greek fret" encircles the top of the jar and edge of the lid. The foot and mouth are unglazed. Having been carefully displayed at an estate for the past 50 years this jar remains in fine condition. No hairlines are detected. Some wear is visible around the mouth and discoloration from early decades of use. There are normal kiln flaws to be expected with these containers like dark spots from kiln ash, smudged paint and pinhole reserves in the glaze.
The jar measure approximately 11" tall and 8" in diameter (28 x 20.5 cm). A beautiful and elegant piece of history that's both highly collectible and quite decorative. The wooden lid is not to this vase. Let us know if you would like to view the dozens of other jars from this collection.
