This is a ceramic bowl known as a chawan (tea bowl) used in a Japanese chado (tea ceremony). It dates to the mid Showa Era (c. 1950) and has the signature on the bottom of the Japanese artist, Genno (see picture 6). Suitable more for the summer season, it is shallow styled chawan.
This chawan measures 5 1/2" wide at its widest by 2" tall (14 x 5 cm). Having been in storage for 90 years it remains in fine condition.
