Japanese Antique 3 Drawer Mirror Stand Vanity Tansu Chest w/ Secret Section
This is a late Meiji era antique (c. 1900) kyodai (mirrored vanity tansu chest) with a unique arrangement of three drawers as well as a hidden section which is found when the lower drawer is removed (see picture 10). The mirror is fully removable with the use of the old pre-industrial original wooden screws (see picture 9). The original mirror has flat rolled glass which is a bit wavy when viewed from the sides.
This chest has been well used yet well loved, and it remains, with exception of limited past signs of use and some very minor restoration, in fine condition. It measures 14" wide by 8 1/2" high by 10 1/4" deep (36 x 22 x 26 cm). With the removeable mirror attached it comes to 21" high (54 cm). A very solidly built, great piece of Japanese history; and also makes a great vanity, jewelry box or a classic desk top organizer today.
