Traditional Japanese Aizu paulownia wood container, crafted from kiri (paulownia) and accompanied by its original informational booklet describing the history and characteristics of Aizu kiri woodworking.

The compact container features a fitted square lid with a recessed circular top and central knob, set over a two-part body displaying the distinctive natural grain of the wood. The lower section has softly rounded corners, while the lighter upper section provides a small storage compartment suitable for tea utensils or other small articles.

According to the accompanying Japanese literature, Aizu paulownia has a long history of use dating to the Kamakura period and was traditionally employed for armor storage, household furnishings, boxes, trays, tea-related articles and other fine wooden wares. The booklet describes Aizu kiri as a particularly high-grade material and presents its manufacture as an important traditional industry of the Aizu region.

A handsome example of traditional Aizu kiri craftsmanship, retaining its original Japanese product literature. Some surface wear and natural variation to the wood are present from age and use.
