Antique Japanese Iron Tsuba with Landscape Scene & Gold Highlights – Edo Period Samurai Sword Guard
Authentic Japanese iron tsuba (samurai sword guard) featuring a finely carved rural landscape scene with subtle gold accents and atmospheric engraved detail.
This elegant tsuba depicts a quiet Japanese countryside setting with small structures, trees, pathways, and distant landscape elements rendered in low-relief carving. Portions of the scene retain traces of gold embellishment, including highlights on rooftops and mountain forms, adding depth and contrast to the dark iron plate.
The composition has a restrained, painterly quality reminiscent of traditional Japanese ink landscape painting. The reverse continues the landscape motif with engraved terrain and structures, creating a continuous scenic design across both sides.
The iron surface has developed a rich brown patina through age and handling. The overall simplicity and quiet aesthetic suggest late Edo period work, possibly in a Hamano, Shoami, or machibori-influenced decorative tradition.
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, oxidation, rubbing, and surface marks consistent with age and use. Areas of gold detail remain visible. Please examine photographs carefully for overall condition and details.
