 This finely decorated Japanese kozuka features two armored samurai warriors rendered in high relief against a dark, finely textured ground. The figures are shown in a lively martial scene, each depicted with elaborate armor, helmets, weapons, and individually worked details that remain remarkably crisp despite the small scale of the composition.
The dark ground provides a dramatic contrast to the warm metal of the figures and surrounding border, emphasizing details of the warriors' armor, facial expressions, swords, and equipment. The reverse is left undecorated with a subtly textured surface and aged patina.
