Japanese Fukagawa Signed Hand Painted Plate Fan Sensu Phoenix Gilt 10.75"

This is an antique Japanese plate made by the Fukagawa family kilns, most likely in the early Meiji period. The signature is consistent with that used over several decades and includes the "scented orchid" mark of the family business - 深川製 Fukagawa-sei, "Made by Fukagawa" (see pictures 8 and 9). As with all pieces made by the companies of this family it is made of high fire ceramic for lasting durability. It is hand painted with a deep blue, persimmon orange and a lot of vibrant gold. Decorated with two beautiful Phoenix, a dragon, birds and flowers all over. An elegant and beautiful piece of Japanese history for collectors and for those wanting to add a quality piece usable art to their lives.

This dish measures 10 3/4" in diameter by 7 1/2" tall (27 x 19 cm). It remains in very fine condition.
