A handmade chawan (抹茶碗) in the murasaki shinssha (紫辰砂) style, the rounded form covered in a layered flambe glaze ranging from periwinkle blue at the base through deep crimson-red banding at the shoulder, with lavender-purple where the two intermingle. The interior is a rich, smooth cobalt blue. The foot is unglazed pale stoneware. The hand-formed rim is distinctly undulating with pronounced organic irregularity. Made in Japan. New, unused.
