A handmade hime chawan (姫抹茶碗) in the yuteki (油滴) style of Mino ware, the compact waisted form covered in a deep tenmoku black glaze with dense silver-white oil-spot patterning throughout exterior and interior. The spots vary in scale and density, producing a surface reminiscent of a night sky or rain-pocked water. The foot ring is unglazed pale stoneware with a glazed inner base. The hand-formed body has a distinctive cinched profile with horizontal banding. Made in Japan. New, unused.
