Cloisonné Enamel Charger / Shippo / Green Ground Floral Medallion and Geometric Border
Japan, Meiji Period, late 19th–early 20th century
A circular cloisonné charger on a deep teal-green ground densely worked with scrolling floral vines, six-petaled blossoms, and geometric medallion accents in cobalt blue, coral-red, and white. The center is occupied by a large cobalt blue medallion enclosing a stylized iris or aquatic plant motif surrounded by concentric rings of beaded and floral detail; four lobed coral-pink cartouches with white floral fill radiate outward from the central medallion. The wide border continues the green ground floral scroll with additional geometric devices. Gilt brass rim. No marks.
Dimensions: 7.5"W × 1"H (19 × 3 cm) Weight:
The dense, all-over wire placement and layered medallion composition are consistent with quality Meiji export production, reflecting the period's synthesis of traditional Japanese metalwork aesthetics with ambitious decorative scale.
Condition: Very good; no significant enamel losses noted. Minor wear to gilt rim consistent with age.
