Cloisonné Enamel Vase / Shippo / Phoenix Ho-oh and Floral Bands on Red-Brown Ground 3"H

Japan, Meiji Period, late 19th–early 20th century

A squat globular cloisonné vase raised on three cast bronze feet, worked in polychrome enamel on a rich red-brown ground. The body is decorated with a central oval cartouche enclosing a ho-oh (phoenix) in flight rendered in black, white, and green, flanked by floral panels with cherry blossom and chrysanthemum. Banded borders in cream, black, blue, and green encircle the shoulder and base. Brass rim at neck opening.

Condition: Good; significant age-related wear throughout including enamel losses, pitting, and oxidation to bronze mounts consistent with piece's age. Displays well as a study or collection piece.
