Japanese Showa Era Sakura Lantern Table Lamp Pair Black Lacquer Brass 15"H
Pair of Japanese rotating sakura lantern table lamps by Hiunkudo, black lacquer and brass with chirimen fabric shades
Japan, Showa Period, mid-20th century
A striking pair of Japanese electric table lamps in the traditional andon (行灯) lantern form, produced by Hiunkudo (雛雲洞), a registered Japanese specialty lamp maker. Traditionally used with a family butsudan alter. The globular shade panels are fitted with chirimen-style fabric printed with a dense sakura (cherry blossom) design in pink, white, and red on a neutral ground, set within a black lacquered ribbed cage frame. The stem is black lacquer with two cast brass collar bands embossed with scrolling decorative motifs. The domed base is black lacquer with radiating petal-form ribs and gilt accents — the overall form echoing the shape of a traditional Japanese hand lantern elevated onto a pedestal base. Original boxes included. US voltage (125V).
Dimensions: 15"H × 4.5"W (38 × 11 cm) each Condition: Very good, consistent with careful storage. Original boxes present.
