Japanese porcelain plate with blue underglaze and iron-brown mountain landscape, Yūhyakudō mark - Two available at the time of listing
Japan | Showa Period, mid-20th century
A fine Japanese porcelain plate decorated in blue underglaze and dark iron-brown overglaze with a sweeping Chinese-style shanshui (山水) mountain-water landscape — towering karst peaks rising through mist, pine-clad promontories, a lakeside pavilion, and riverside architecture rendered in the fluid, ink-wash manner of literati painting. The two-tone technique — soft cobalt blue washes for sky, water, and distant mountains, with dark iron-brown detailing for foreground rocks, rooflines, and trees — gives the composition a depth and tonal range closer to ink painting on paper than conventional blue-and-white ceramic decoration. The white porcelain ground is clean and luminous. The reverse carries the studio mark 有百堂 (Yūhyakudō) in underglaze blue.
Dimensions: 8.5"W × 1"H (22 × 3 cm) Condition: Very good. No chips, cracks, or losses noted. Minor age-consistent wear to foot rim.
