This is an antique Japanese cup called a Sobachoko (dating back probably to the mid to late Edo Era (c.1850's). Typically used for drinking cold sake these days it may also be used as dipping bowl for noodle, hold sauce or spices and otherwise an nice all purpose items for food service. Made of a high fire ceramic for lasting durability. It has all hand painted design.
This bowl measures 3" in diameter by 2 1/4" tall (7.5 x 5.5 cm). It has a dark hairline and a chip on the lip but still holds hot liquid. See photos for condition detail.
