Antique Japanese Tobakobon Round w/ compartments & handles

This is a solid wood tobakoban originally used to hold lit charcoal on a bed of ash in the copper cup installed into the wood. The coals where then used to light the long tobacco pipes common in the Meiji and Taisho eras.  The wood then acted as an insulator to keep the box cool for transport.
