Vintage Japanese Kanzashi Hairpin – Clear Amber Resin – 5½"
Description
Minimalist kanzashi (簪) hair ornament from the early Shōwa period, formed entirely of translucent amber-toned resin. The piece is carved in a sleek, modern split-fork design with a gently domed finial, its clean lines reflecting the simplified elegance popular in 1930s Japan.
This type of clear amber resin (bekkō fū) was a favored material during the pre-war years, prized for its lightness and warm glow reminiscent of natural tortoiseshell. Such understated designs complemented both kimono and early Western-style dress, offering a balance of modern refinement and traditional Japanese aesthetics.
A graceful, timeless example of early 20th-century Japanese design.
