A complete suit of antique Japanese samurai armor dating to the mid to late Edo period (18th/19th century). This example represents a tōsei gusoku assembled in a formal style, suitable for ceremonial, guard, or official domain use rather than battlefield combat.
The armor features an iron suji-style kabuto with a naturally aged patina and a dragonfly (tonbo) maedate, a traditional samurai symbol associated with vigilance and victory. An iron menpō with expressive modeling and honest surface wear accompanies a lamellar-style dō finished with silk lacing in an indigo and gold color palette.
Large sode with decorative silk brocade coverings indicate formal or ceremonial use. The suit is completed with matching kote, haidate, kusazuri, and associated components. Materials, colors, and wear patterns are consistent throughout, and the armor presents as a cohesive Edo-period assembly rather than a modern random grouping.
Condition is consistent with age, showing surface wear, patina, and textile aging expected of antique armor. No evidence of aggressive modern restoration is observed. Some repairs to the dragonfly maedate can be seen in the detailed photos. This is a strong example suitable for private collection, gallery display, or institutional presentation.
