This is a ceramic bowl known as a chawan (tea bowl) used in a Japanese chado (tea ceremony). It dates to mid or late 20th century. Suitable more for the winter season, its walls are high and thick, to keep the tea warm longer. It has a hansom gray "orange peel" glaze over white oribe clay.
This chawan measures 5 1/2" wide at its widest by 3" tall.
Having been carefully stored it remains in fine condition.
