Vintage Japanese Blue-and-White Porcelain Bowl with Radiating Net Pattern, 3″W

Japan, mid Shōwa period (circa 1950–1975)
Dimensions: approx. 3″W × 3″D × 1.5″H (7.6 × 7.6 × 3.8 cm)

This vintage sometsuke (染付) porcelain bowl features a beautifully controlled radiating amime-style網目 net patternhand-painted in cobalt. The interior design forms a rhythmic mesh or lattice motif, expanding outward from the center like a woven basket or geometric web. The pale blue rim wash subtly softens into the white body, emphasizing the bowl’s restrained mid-century aesthetic.

The overall design reflects traditional sometsuke brushwork with a simplified, modern sensibility that became popular in postwar tableware. These refined geometric interiors were favored in home dining, cafés, and small restaurants—prized for their clarity, durability, and minimalist elegance. The underside bears a hand-written kiln or workshop mark, confirming small-batch studio production.

The bowl’s compact form and quietly dynamic interior make it suitable for serving condiments, pickles, sweets, or for use as a chawan-style tasting vessel. As a display object, the interlocking net motif brings a graphic yet calming visual rhythm to a cabinet or shelf.

Condition: Very good vintage condition with expected wear to the foot rim and occasional glaze marks from production and use. No cracks or structural issues.

A charming and collectible vintage sometsuke piece—expertly painted, versatile in function, and visually engaging for both use and display.
