This is a vintage Japanese ceramic bowl known as a chawan (tea bowl) used in Japanese chado (tea ceremony).Its high walls make it more suitable for tea ceremony of the cooler months. This bowl was hand thrown and high fired for lasting durability. It is has a warm tan base clay imprinted with stamps of triangular flowers with a white and gray glaze over that.
This chawan measures 4 1/8" in diameter by 2 1/2" tall (10.5x 6.5 cm). Having been in storage, it remains in very fine condition.
