Vintage Japanese Fuchin Scroll Weights Blue White Porcelain Barrel Bead Tassel
Japan, Showa period (1926–1989) Approx. 10 in. overall length (25 cm); beads approx. 4 cm
A fine matched pair of vintage Japanese scroll weights (fuchin, 風鎮) suspending faceted octagonal barrel-form beads in sometsuke (染付) blue-and-white porcelain decorated in underglaze cobalt with foliate and figural motifs in the Chinese-influenced tradition. Each bead is fitted with a braided dark green silk cord cap and suspended on a black silk hanging cord, terminating in a full, densely wound black silk tassel. The octagonal faceted form and underglaze painting style are consistent with Showa period export-oriented porcelain production.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. Minor age-related wear to cord and tassel consistent with age and use. Beads intact, no chips or cracks observed.
A well-preserved and visually striking pair of fuchin — increasingly appreciated by Western collectors of Japanese scroll accessories and decorative arts.
