Vintage Japanese Fuchin Scroll Weights Blue White Porcelain Cube Bead Brown Tassel
Japan, Showa period (1926–1989) Approx. 10 in. overall length (25 cm); beads approx. 4 cm
A fine matched pair of vintage Japanese scroll weights (fuchin, 風鎮) suspending square cube-form beads in sometsuke (染付) blue-and-white porcelain decorated in bold underglaze cobalt with a geometric lattice pattern. The crisp, graphic decoration and rectilinear bead form give these fuchin a distinctly formal character. Each bead is fitted with a gold metallic braided cord cap and suspended on a dark brown silk hanging cord, terminating in a full, densely wound brown silk tassel. The contrast of bright blue-and-white porcelain against warm brown silk is particularly striking.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. Minor age-related wear to cord and tassel consistent with use. Beads intact, no chips or cracks observed.
A bold and graphic pair of fuchin — the geometric lattice decoration and cube form make these among the most visually distinctive examples of their type.
