Vintage Japanese Fuchin Scroll Weights Marbled Stone Sphere Beads Bronze Tassel
Japan, Showa period (1926–1989) Approx. 10 in. overall length (25 cm); beads approx. 4 cm
A fine matched pair of vintage Japanese scroll weights (fuchin, 風鎮) suspending smooth spherical beads in veined gray-and-white stone — likely marble or howlite — each exhibiting a quietly mottled surface consistent with the Japanese aesthetic of understated beauty. Each bead is secured with a dark knotted cord fitting and suspended on a dark brown braided silk hanging cord, terminating in a full, densely wound bronze-brown silk tassel with characteristic patina to the knotted cord caps. The pale veined stone paired with warm brown silk produces a restrained and harmonious combination well suited to classical scroll display.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. Minor age-related wear to cord and tassel consistent with use. Beads intact and smooth, no chips observed.
An elegantly understated pair of fuchin — the soft gray stone and warm bronze tassels particularly well suited to landscape or ink-wash scrolls.
