Vintage Japanese Fuchin Scroll Weights Mottled Amber Ceramic Sphere Black Tassel
Japan, Showa period (1926–1989) Approx. 10 in. overall length (25 cm); beads approx. 4 cm
A fine matched pair of vintage Japanese scroll weights (fuchin, 風鎮) suspending large spherical beads in richly mottled amber, brown, and gold — a natural semi-precious stone such as picture jasper. Each bead presents a warm, variegated surface with a naturalistic depth of color. Fitted with a bronze metallic braided cord cap and suspended on a dark braided silk cord, each weight terminates in a full, densely wound black silk tassel. The large bead scale, warm earth tones, and deep black silk create a bold and grounded combination.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. Minor age-related wear to cord and tassel consistent with use. Beads intact, no chips or cracks observed.
A striking and substantial pair of fuchin — the mottled amber beads and full black tassels particularly effective against dark lacquer or textile-mounted scrolls.
