This is a ceramic bowl known as a chawan (tea bowl) used in a Japanese chanoyu (tea ceremony). It dates from the mid Showa Era. It is imprinted with white colored geometric shapes glazed with gray, the clay used is a deep brown.
This chawan measures 5 1/2" in diameter and about 3" tall (12.5 x 7.5 cm). Having been in storage with limited use for decades it remains in very fine condition.
