Vintage Japanese Kanzashi Hairpin – Cream and Amber Marbled Resin – 5½"

Description

Graceful kanzashi (簪) hair ornament from the early Shōwa period, carved from marbled cream and amber resin that mimics natural bekkō (鼈甲, tortoiseshell). The simple split-fork design and rounded finial reflect the restrained modern elegance favored in pre-war Japan, when women’s hair fashions balanced tradition and Western influence.

The subtle color gradient—from translucent amber to ivory—creates a soft, luminous effect in the hair. Lightweight yet refined, this type of kanzashi was popular for both daily wear and formal occasions, harmonizing with silk kimono or Western dress alike.

A lovely example of transitional Japanese design blending classical form with Art-Deco-era modernity.
