Vintage Japanese Kokeshi Pair Wooden Shogi Pieces Samurai King & Queen 4"

This is a vintage pair of Japanese wooden dolls known as kokeshi. This pair of kokeshi are carved into a pair of shogi pieces. Shogi is a board game much like chess played with wooden pieces. The name of each piece is written on each.

This pair are the "king" and "queen" pieces, both sport determined looks on their delicately painted faces.

Having been in storage for several decades, it remains in overall fine vintage condition and has a beautiful warm patina that shows the decades. There are some scuffs and dents. These kokeshi measure about 4" (1.5 cm) tall and 3 1/2" at the widest (9 cm).
