Vintage Japanese Mini Iron Tea Kettle Tetsubin Cast Iron Interior 3.5"

This is an vintage Japanese tetsubin (iron tea pot). It is made of cast iron and is very small, only 3.5" in diameter to boil water for tea. The body features hexagonal "hail stone" pattern rounds beneath a rectangular design at the neck supporting the lid. The lid itself is decorated in the same style. It is made of iron to hold more heat. The water from this tetsubin pours clear and will continue to do so as long as the pot is properly cared for. It measures over all about 5.5 x 5 x 5" including the handle and spout. We brought this pot straight from Japan and it remains in fine condition.

Although it is small please use this pot to boil only water, if you steap teain it, the tea will oxodixe with the iron turning the tea very bitter. While this will produce a layer of iron-tannate. While this layer will protect your tetsubin from rust, it won't make good tea, but it will make good water suitable for tea brewed in a separate vessel.
