Vintage Japanese Ranma Cranes & Pines Carved Transom Screen Sugi Wood 55"

The Japanese Ranma is a decorative and functional carving used above a door way to allow airflow and light to pass though. They are exquisitely hand carved from sugi - Japanese cedar. A typical ranma may be from 1/2" thick to 1 1/2" thick. These two are unusual in that the single pieces of wood carving extends beyond the boundaries of the edges in all directions in amazing detail. 

It is approximately 54.5" x 12.25" x 1" and weighs in at about 10lbs
