This is an antique Japanese early 1900's iron Usubata (flower vase). This vase was used in a butsudan (Buddhist family shrine) to offer flowers. It is made of a heavy iron and has a thick raised calligraphy. This vase measures 9" wide at the fluted top and 8" tall. A beautiful way to display flowers.
It has a strong tri-pod footing. The large top part easily separates from the lower vase. Typically the top is taken to a place where flowers are arranged and then taken to the tokonoma where the base awaits.
