Vintage Japanese Signed Tool Laminated Forged Iron Blade Nomi Chisel Red Oak
Vintage Japanese Signed Tool Laminated Forged Iron Blade Nomi Chisel Red Oak
Vintage Japanese nomi are truly impressive in the quality of their steel. This exceptional Japanese nomi (chisel) was made over 80 years ago by a master Japanese blade maker (whose signature is seen in picture 5) in the tradition of the samurai sword, with high carbon laminated steel that holds an edge like no other in the world. It was used for precise paring and finishing of many kinds of wood joinery. This is a nice wide blade, great for all around detail or paring work.
This chisel is made of a hand-forged lamination of white steel and wrought iron. You can actually see the layers of lamination on the blade in the enlarged pictures (see enlarged pictures 5 & 11).
It has been well used yet well loved and is still razor sharp. This chisel remains in very good condition. Overall it measures 10" long (25 cm) with a nice sized nomi blade that is 1 15/16" wide (4.9 cm) wide. A great sized nomi you will enjoy for a lifetime before passing it onto another generation.
