Vintage Japanese Signed Kokeshi Doll (こけし) Radiating Red Hairline with Layered Chrysanthemum Body Pattern

Japan, Shōwa period (mid-20th century)
12.5″H

A larger traditional wood-turned kokeshi with a bold, radiating red hairline sweeping outward from a black top-knot, narrow painted eyes, and a small red mouth. The cylindrical body is banded in dark rings at top and bottom and decorated with a repeating, layered red-and-green floral pattern reminiscent of stacked chrysanthemum petals.

This radiating crown pattern and narrow, ringed-eye painting style is associated with several of the classic Miyagi-prefecture kokeshi traditions, though the specific kei (regional lineage) isn't confirmed here. The base carries a painted signature in black ink, but the characters aren't legible enough to read with confidence. Although, "48 years old" can be made out.
