A striking vintage Japanese silk kimono in a warm, clear orange (橙色, daidai-iro) ground of smooth plain-weave silk with a quiet satin sheen. The decoration departs entirely from the naturalistic floral conventions of most Showa kimono in favor of a boldly graphic abstract composition: large, loosely irregular polygon forms — derived from the hexagon and suggesting overlapping patchwork fragments — are placed asymmetrically across the lower body and one sleeve in the hōmongi (訪問着) placement tradition, leaving the upper body and most of the sleeves in unbroken plain ground. The abstract quality of the overall design reads as a single bold motif from a distance, dissolving at close range into intricate geometric micro-patterning within each shape.

Each polygonal form is filled with a different small-scale ground pattern rendered in a unified palette of olive-khaki, grey-green, and warm gold with subtle orange accents at the pattern nodes: kikko (亀甲, tortoiseshell hexagon) with four-petal rosettes at each intersection; seigaiha (青海波, overlapping wave scales) in fine outline; and hoshi/kiku-inspired (星/菊) grid arrangements of radiating star flowers. The alternation of different pattern fills within the same tonal range gives the composition an effect reminiscent of antique nishiki brocade textile samples or karaori costume patchwork — a knowing, sophisticated reference to the tradition of textile-within-textile representation in Japanese decorative arts. The lining is plain white silk with a narrow orange hakkake hem lining.

This kind of self-consciously modernist geometric kimono design — abstract shape replacing pictorial motif, pattern used as material rather than image — became a distinct current in mid-century Showa textile production, appealing to women who wanted the formality of silk kimono with a more contemporary visual sensibility.
