Vintage Japanese Stoneware Vase with Natural Ash Glaze Drips — 10.5"H
A robust hand-thrown Japanese stoneware vessel with a thick, rustic surface, natural firing texture, and dramatic ivory-blue ash glaze drips cascading from the shoulder toward the base. The exterior surface shows an earthy charcoal tone with feldspathic ash deposits and pitted stoneware body, giving the piece a strong wabi-sabi presence. Two applied side ring handles add a traditional utilitarian form element, suggesting a historic jar style adapted for storage or display.
10.5"H x 9.5" diameter
Opening: 4.5"
Interior depth: 10"
Weight: 7lbs 3oz
The interior is left dark and unglazed, emphasizing the weight and clay character of the body. The natural glaze movement, uneven surface, and expressive firing marks create an organic, atmospheric quality associated with rural kiln traditions and Mingei aesthetics. This vase displays extremely well in minimal, contemporary, or Japanese interiors.
Surface irregularities, firing inclusions, glaze runs, and textural areas are intentional characteristics of the kiln process and contribute to the authenticity and visual depth of the piece.
A striking example of rustic Japanese pottery with strong sculptural appeal and timeless wabi-sabi character.
