This is a ceramic bowl known as a (tea bowl) used in a Japanese chado (tea ceremony). It dates to the late Taisho Era (c. 1925). It has a hand painted floral design in blue. Suitable more for the warm season, it is shallow styled chawan (see enlarged pictures).
This chawan measures 5 1/2" in diameter by 2" tall (14 x 5 cm). Having been in storage for over 90 years, with exception of sign of past use, it remains in very fine condition.
