The ovoid body and domed lid are covered overall in a dense hanazume (花詰, packed-flower) pattern: tightly spaced kiku (菊, chrysanthemum) heads rendered in gold against a finely stippled teal-green ground, with karakusa (唐草) scrolling vine interwoven throughout. The effect is textile-like in its density and precision — the gold enamel work rich and even across the surface. A banded register at the shoulder separates body and lid. The color combination — ao (blue-green) ground with gold — places this squarely in the ao-Kutani (青九谷) palette tradition, the green-dominant decorative lineage within the Kutani repertoire. Kutani ware (九谷焼) originates in Ishikawa Prefecture and is renowned for its bold overglaze enamel decoration, five-color (go-sai) palette, and elaborate gilt work. The hanazume chrysanthemum allover pattern was among the most widely produced Kutani decorative schemes of the mid-Shōwa period, appearing across export and domestic wares. At this scale — 14.5 inches w/ base — the piece carries considerably more presence than the typical small ginger jar.
