Vintage Tibetan Bronze Green Tara Statue Buddhist Goddess Of Compassion 14.5"H

This is a vintage Tibetan bronze statue of the most powerful of Buddhist Goddesses - Tara. She is seated serenely, yet regally poised to assist her followers in need. Tara is understood to be the most powerful female deity in the Buddhist pantheon. Her name means “star” in Sanskrit and she is believed to possess the ability to guide followers, like a star, on their spiritual journey.

This statue is part of a larger collection of Asian bronze acquired by a local collector during the 1970's, 80's and 90's. It is assumed to be mid to late 20th century in origin and was labeled "Made in India". 

The sculpture stands 14 1/2" high by almost 9" wide. It weighs 5 pounds 8 ounces. Having been carefully displayed and in storage for much of the past 40 years, with just a bit of oxidation on the bronze finish, it remains in very good condition.
