Banque d'Etat du Maroc 5 Francs, French Protectorate Morocco, 1943, bilingual French and Arabic text

French Protectorate, Morocco; issued 1943

A 5 Francs banknote issued by the Banque d'Etat du Maroc (Bank of the State of Morocco) during the French Protectorate period, dated 1943 — a year of considerable significance in the North African theater, as the Allied victory at El-Alamein in late 1942 had turned the tide and Morocco itself hosted the Casablanca Conference in January 1943. The face carries bold geometric Moorish decorative borders in blue and gold with the large 5 at left, serial number 445 / T 567, engraved by P. Jacquin. The reverse presents the same design in Arabic script — البنك الدولتي المغربي / خمسة فرنكات — with officer signatures and the printer's credit Imp. Reumes, Casa (Casablanca). The note is bilingual throughout, reflecting the dual French and Arabic administrative character of the Protectorate.
