Japanese Government occupation currency, Philippines 1 Centavo, P/BW block, 1942, lightly circulated
Japanese Occupation, Philippines; issued 1942
A Japanese military occupation banknote for 1 Centavo — the smallest denomination issued for the Philippines — bearing the P/BW block designation in red. The face reads THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT / ONE CENTAVO on a pale green ground with decorative guilloche border and 大日本帝國政府 at the base. The reverse carries a bold 1 in dark green guilloche. The 1 Centavo was the lowest-value note in the Philippine occupation series, issued alongside 5 and 10 Centavo notes for small daily transactions. This example is in noticeably better condition than the heavily worn higher-denomination notes, showing only light fold lines and minimal soiling.
